Although its reputation isn't great, newcomers to the series should definitely consider checking it out once they beat Mass Effect Legendary Edition - and even people who've played it already may find something new to love about it, too.People complain about a lot of things in this game. If nothing else, Mass Effect: Andromeda will likely serve as a template for wherever the new team at BioWare takes the series next. Despite that, there are more than enough moments of legitimate world-building to make Andromeda recognizable as a Legendary Edition trilogy follow-up. It may mirror the first Mass Effect at times and its core conceit was arguably done better in People Can Fly's Outriders earlier this year. Ryder's quest to save humanity from certain doom after a space colonization effort is compelling. Of course, this isn't what many Mass Effect fans want the franchise to focus on, so it's good that there is a narrative worth following here as long as players come in with the right expectations. Gaining new abilities and updating weapons both stay fun throughout the story, making Andromeda better than the average action experience. This makes sense considering the focus publisher Electronic Arts placed on multiplayer, but it benefits the single-player story all the same. The ability to jet around planets feels liberating when compared to past entries, and the third-person shooting has never been better. Once Ryder plants their feet on one of the many planets in this new galaxy, the game offers a sandbox experience for anyone who enjoyed Mass Effect 3's firearms. Mass Effect: Andromeda's best feature is easily its improved combat and movement mechanics. Even considering all that, there's a certain appeal to playing through the game - especially after beating Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Characters in Mass Effect Andromeda can subtly shake while in conversations, their faces may look glitched from the right angle, and certain bits of dialogue feel inauthentic. This isn't to say that there aren't still problems with the game. When compared to the original trilogy, Andromeda's technical issues made it feel like fan fiction, and no amount of fixes could remove that reputation in the short term. The end result was a sequel that underperformed and a lot of fans found disappointing. Since release, there have been reports from developers that the Andromeda team had to cut down features like new aliens due to a lack of budget. With franchise fans feeling a renewed sense of nostalgia thanks to the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and newcomers playing the games for the first time, some people may be wondering if Andromeda is worth playing now. Its DLC expansions were canceled, and EA merged its primary development team into another studio not long after release. The game had technical issues and presented a narrative that felt unfinished. Although Mass Effect: Andromedawasn't the new start for the franchise that fans and BioWare hoped for, it still has its merits.
